Featured Composer: Johannes Berauer

Johannes Berauer

Eight chamber music compositions by the multi-talented Johannes Berauer are available in the music austria sheet music shop. Compositions of this young Austrian composer are difficult to assign to one specific genre. An instrumentation with violin, clarinet, bassoon and piano implies contemporary music. A piece exclusively for saxophones assumes arranged jazz music. An intervening beat boxer most definitely has something to do with popular music. In addition, the melody, rhythm and structure of the voices jump between jazzy improvisation, strict counterpoint and techno minimalist patterns.

Featured Composer: Katharina Klement

“When asked about a definition of music, Katharina Klement’s answer is to the point: „Everything that sounds.“ Her compositions not only include various instruments in their original, prepared or electronic form, but also employ extra-musical objects like paper, metal, toys, and concrete machinery. Despite the palpable materials, the compositions cannot be described as brachial, since they are far from any pathos and steer the focus to continuous changes in their constant development of often deranged sounds.”

Featured Composer: Georg Friedrich Haas

Diffuse masses of sounds cascade into the depths. The descending motion is perpetually repeated, persistently spiraling downward, then upward again – but only seemingly, for the oscillating play of shifting accents and volume generates the illusion of an endless expansion of the tonal space. The deceptive game finally exposes itself when the deceleration of sequences reveals the inner pattern. A brilliant tonal space unfurls where well tempered sounds meet rarified overtone chords.

Featured Composer: MANUELA KERER

Manuela Kerer is an Italian composer currently living in Innsbruck, who grew up in Südtirol with German as her mother tongue. Although she managed to accomplish completed studies in composition, psychology, law and violin, nothing grips her heart like music, so she is currently dedicating more and more of her time to composition.  Her dynamic approach, which draws quirky influences from her multi-faceted career is strongly evident in her composition palette where she draws as freely from neuropsychological processes as from things that make her laugh. She belongs to the youngest emerging generation of composers in Austria being born in Brixen, 1980.
